Weekend Getaway

One of the best things about living in Macon is we're just about smack-dab in the middle of Georgia - meaning most trips within the state are at max 3 hours of travel!

Alex and I took advantage of this prime location and went up to Atlanta to see Alex's friends Bre and Jamie. The hope was to spend the weekend playing video games, and watching the stream of the video game company Blizzard's annual convention (hosted virtually this year due to Covid).

We made it just in time to catch the opening announcements - and about 15 minutes into the first side bar decided that this was just not as fun as the true convention content! So the weekend plans changed and we played board games the rest of the evening.

I'm not great at taking photos during close friend interactions - I try to stay in the moment usually, but damn do I regret not taking a photo of the first game we played that evening. It was aptly named Aggravation and the playing board was made by Bre's family member by hand! We played three rounds of this game and I definitely think I'll be buying or building my own copy!

The concept was very similar to that of Sorry - you had four marbles that you were attempting to navigate around the board and into a safe zone, and use to "bump" other players back to home! Instead of playing with dice however, this game was played with decks of playing cards to determine how far your little marbles could travel. The image below is of a board that someone else has made for the game:

Let me tell you, the game's title is not a lie, I got bumped back to home so many times through this game I thought I was just going to have to stay there until the other team won! I highly recommend it if you're looking for something new and fun to play with the family.

We spent the second day of the virtual convention out and about in Atlanta at the Battery Park. Ate ice cream in 40 degree weather, had many beers, then headed back to the apartment to play more board games.

All in all, one of the best weekends I've had in a while!
